There are many different types of hearing device on the market today, although some are more suitable for certain hearing problems than others.

Behind-the-ear (BTE)

The main body of this hearing device sits behind the ear and a clear plastic tube runs over the top of the ear and into an earmould inside the ear canal.

Receiver-in-the-canal (RIC)

This hearing device has the main body behind the ear with a clear plastic tube running to a receiver sited directly in the ear canal. This is a popular style for first-time users.

In-the-ear (ITE)

These devices consist of a shell which contains all the components of the device. The shell fits into the outer portion of the ear.

In-the-canal (ITC)

These devices consist of a shell containing all the components of the device. They fit into the ear canal, leaving only a small portion of the device visible.

Completely-in-the-canal (CIC)

These are tiny devices which fit right inside the ear canal. The only visible part is a thin line which allows you to remove and insert the device.
